Dr. Suborna Barua

Dr. Suborna Barua

President and Chair of Boards

Dr. Suborna Barua is the President and Chair of the Board of CEAN Global and a full Professor of Finance at the Department of International Business, University of Dhaka. He is a recognized international expert in sustainable, ESG, and climate finance, leveraging a unique blend of high-level academic expertise and extensive professional practice.

Holding a Ph.D. in climate finance and economics from Federation University Australia, Dr. Barua's governance experience is extensive. His current board roles include Chairman of Republic Insurance Company Limited (RICL) and Independent Director at Janata Capital and Investment Limited (JCIL). He was formerly the Chairman of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) and ICB Asset Management Company Limited.

Dr. Barua's work focuses on critical areas including climate finance, impact investment, ESG, and energy transition. He also serves as a sustainability consultant for the UK-based Global Center for Excellence in Sustainability (GCES) and is a sitting member of the Technical Committee for the GCF Expert Committee at the Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh. He regularly works with central banks as an ad-hoc technical expert in sustainable finance. Over two decades, he has led over a dozen research and policy projects in the intersection of climate, sustainability, ESG, microfinance, finance, insurance, and economics for global institutions, such as ADB, UNDP, FAO, WFP, World Bank, UK-FCDO, and is the author of the globally recognized book, "Principles of Green Banking," in addition to several high-impact journal articles. Dr. Barua is also a government delegate for Bangladesh at major international forums, including COP29 negotiations.

Professor Dr. Melita Mehjabeen

Dr. Melita Mehjabeen is a seasoned academic and governance professional with over two decades of experience spanning academia, corporate leadership, and policy consulting. She currently serves as an Independent Director on the boards of Grameenphone Ltd. (Chair, Audit Committee), Unilever Consumer Care Ltd. (Chair, Audit Committee; Member, NRC Committee), British American Tobacco Bangladesh, National Bank PLC (Member, Audit and Risk Management Committees), and SME Foundation, Government of Bangladesh. Her governance work emphasizes transparency, accountability, and strategic oversight, integrating sustainability and ESG considerations into board practices.

Dr. Mehjabeen has extensive experience in teaching and training on Corporate Governance, Leadership, and Financial Management. She has completed the IFC’s Training of Trainers (ToT) on Sustainable Leadership and has trained numerous professionals on corporate governance and board dynamics. A Commonwealth Scholar with a PhD from Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, Dr. Mehjabeen combines academic rigor with boardroom insight, bridging governance theory and practice to strengthen institutional resilience and ethical leadership.
